geophlog.net is pretty simple: Geof & geodata + photos + log = geophlog.net. Now, this wouldn’t have quite the multiple meanings it does if geof = geoph, but hey, it was good.

I was inspired to create this site by the release of Monotone, Automattic’s new WordPress theme for photologs. Each entry gets a unique layout based on the colors in the photo.

This is an experiment. It’s designed to make me push myself to take more photos, which I think is a good thing. I’m no Noah Grey, and I never will be, but I enjoy it.

As of May 2008, my current DSLR gear is:

  • Canon 10D with battery grip [bought used from Alex King]
  • Canon EF f/1.8 50mm II lens, which I’ve found to be the best $80 I ever spent on a piece of glass
  • Canon EF f/1.8 85mm USM lens, which has become my go-to lens of late because of its length and the joys of using an ultrasonic motor
  • Canon EF f/2.8 28mm lens, which I love for wide angle shots. I’m still learning how to bring it into my arsenal.

I’ve really only been shooting for a couple of years, and I’m still the lesser photographer of the Morris boys, in my estimation. [Doug's way better.] Most of what I shoot is concerts, because of my love for music. geophlog is designed to make me expand my horizons.

We’ll see where it goes from here.
